Crocheted American Girl Doll Dress Pattern
In the past all I have made is blankets, but recently I have started to experiment with some other patterns, thanks to the books from LeisureArts.com They have really given me the courage to try some things I have never tried before, like this American Girl doll dress.
So I started to search on the internet for OTHER patterns. I decided to try some clothing for American Girl dolls since they were small, could be finished quickly and my niece has one of these dolls. Also, what girl does not love more clothes for her dolls!!!!! This is also a great way to use up scraps of yarn.
I found the original pattern for this dress HERE, but I did alter it a little bit. I ended up typing up my altered version of the pattern HERE.
This was the FIRST Crocheted American Girl Doll Dress I had ever crocheted, and once it was done I was so happy to see that it fit the doll perfectly! Now I plan on making several more for my niece, and I will have to take photos along the way to show my slight variations to the original pattern.

Why Should You Crochet a Doll Dress?
What child would not love a new wardrobe for their doll! My grandmother was a seamstress and she was kind of the go to person for making wedding, bridesmaid and prom dresses in her town. She would take the leftover scraps of fabric and make Barbie doll dresses for me.
I used to LOVE IT when I would see that a package had come from her because I knew inside there would be a beautiful new dress for my Barbie.
So this dress is my twist on that same thing. I can pass that same feeling of a new doll dress onto another child! Also, making a doll dress like this is a great way to use up your scraps of yarn! If you have some fuzzy yarn you could really make the dress look fancy or like something worn on the red carpet!

When I was a little girl the popular doll was named Cricket and if you pushed a button her hair would grow. Me, my sister and my cousin all had Cricket or one of her companions and my mother made a ton of clothes for them. My grandmother did just what you've done and crocheted dresses.
